Have you ever considered the environmental impact of disposing of 63 million personal computers a year? That's close to 200 million cubic feet of potential landfill.
It has been estimated that over 50% of all heavy metals found in our landfills can be traced to discarded consumer electronics.
Glass screens (CRTs) in monitors contain 3-8 pounds of lead.
All computers contain lithium batteries, and laptops contain nickel cadmium or nickel metal hydride batteries.
The PC also contains mercury, cadmium, chromium, and some types of flame retardants.
The Long Hill Township Public Work Department has a PC recycling program. If we recycle our PC, we keep 7-10 pounds of hazardous material out of landfills, and save the landfill cost. There is no cost to you.
