Red Cross Classes
 
First Aid--Adult & Pediatric
 
CPR/AED for Lay Responders--Adult & Pediatric
(These classes are designed for adults.  With instructor approval, participants 13-18 will be considered.  Contact the Rec Dept for further information.)
 
All Classes will be held at Long Hill First Aid Squad Bldg. Please park at Town Hall and walk to rear entrance of First Aid building.

Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic 
The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic (Sports Awareness for Educating Today's Youth ™) is a three-hour program that meets the "Minimum Standards for Volunteer Coaches Safety Orientation and Training Skills Programs" (N.J.A.C. 5:52) and provides partial civil immunity protection to volunteer coaches under the "Little League Law" (2A:62A-6 et. seq.)

Classes added as demand dictates.  If you are a Long Hill Coach, Assistant Coach, Team Parent, etc., and in need of this certification, please contact the Long Hill Recreation Dept. at  908.647.8000 x219.

Classes are scheduled as needed. Check blue box at top of page for announcements and dates for upcoming classes.

If you cannot make a class when it is being held in Long Hill, you can visit the Rutgers website to view alternative locations where the class is being held.

Note:  The Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic is valid for life.  If you have lost your card, a replacement card can be obtained:

Volunteer coaches who need verification of having attended the Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. Clinic may request a replacement card by sending a check or money order payable to "Rutgers Y.S.R.C." for $5 with your name, address*(see below) and daytime phone number to:

Red Cross Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid

Classes will be added as needed. If your local community group needs certification(s)/training, please contact the Parks & Recreation Dept. directly.

Upon successful completion of class, registrant will receive a 2 year certification from Red Cross.  The class and the certification is the same regardless of whether or not this is the first time the class is being taken or if it is a re-certification.

Red Cross First Aid Training Class

This 3 hour class will cover the following learning objectives: 
*Identify the signals of common sudden illnesses and how to care for common sudden illnesses. 
*Describe how to care for someone who is having a seizure. 
*Identify the signals of and how to care for heat-related illnesses and cold-related emergencies. 
*Identify signals of and how to care for various soft tissue and musculoskeletal injuries. 
*Demonstrate how to control external bleeding. 
*Identify signals of and explain how to care for head, neck and spinal injuries. 
*Explain how to care for muscle, bone or joint injuries.

There is no prerequisite course for this class. 
CLASS SIZE IS LIMITED.  PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.

 

Red Cross CPR/AED Training Class

This 3 hour  class will cover the following learning objectives:
CPR/AED

Recognize the signals of a cardiac emergency.
Identify the links in the Cardiac Chain of Survival.
Describe how to care for a heart attack.
List the causes of cardiac arrest.
Explain the role of CPR in cardiac arrest.
Demonstrate how to perform CPR.
Recognize the signals of a breathing emergency.
Demonstrate how to care for a person who is choking.
Explain what defibrillation is and how it works.
Identify precautions to take when using an AED on a person in sudden cardiac arrest.
Demonstrate how to use an AED.

CLASS SIZE IS LIMITED.  PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
