INVESTIGATIVE SECTION
The Investigative Section, which consists of two detectives, works within the Community Services Division of the Long Hill Township Police Department. The Investigative Section is responsible for conducting criminal investigations, pre-employment background investigations as well as background investigations for various permits such as firearms, soliciting and liquor licensing.
The officer in charge of the Investigation Section not only supervises the detective, but he also screens every investigation and is responsible for the assignment and follow-up of criminal investigations. The Investigative Section personnel are on call 24 hours a day should their assistance be required at a crime scene.
Detectives receive mandatory training each year in areas such as: Domestic Violence, Firearms Proficiency, Use of Force, and Hazardous Materials. This training is supplemented with advanced training in Narcotics, Fire Investigations, Computer Crimes, Forensic Examination, and Interview and Interrogations.

Although you may not see the detectives on a daily basis, rest assured they are patrolling the community in one of the department's unmarked or surveillance vehicles. The detectives are also proficient in a wide assortment of surveillance and forensic equipment, to assist each detective with accomplishing their mission.
The Investigative Section also participates in the Identi-kid program, which is established to fingerprint children. The program is offered to pre-school age children in the community after a permission slip has been signed by a parent/guardian. All fingerprints are returned to the parents to keep on file at their residence.
