POLICE RECORDS SECTION

Any police record deemed to be a public record must be requested in writing utilizing the Request For Access To Police Department Records form.  Under the New Jersey Public Records Access Law N.J.S.A. 47 1A-1 et. seq., the request must include the requester’s name, address and telephone number and the record sought, and must be completed and submitted to the Municipal Clerk as the Custodian of Public Records.  The Clerk has (7) seven business days to fulfill your records request.  Fees for copies of documents are set forth in the Township Fee Ordinance each year.

All OPRA requests (including requests for Police Records) must be made at the Municipal Clerk’s office at Town Hall.

Certain police records are exempt from public access.  The list is at the bottom of this web page.  If you request a record deemed to be exempt from release, you will notified in writing of the denial of access to the record requested.  You have the right to appeal the decision that the document or documents that were denied are not public records.  You may take your appeal to the Public Records Council or to the New Jersey Superior Court as provided by N.J.S.A. 47:1A-6-7.
